Widget
Ah, the trusty widget! The widget was designed to hold and protect the internal optics of the cystoscope medical device redesign. While the widget may look simple, there are several key features that aid the component in accomplishing its task. The widget has two flat surfaces (ear-like structures) that allow the component to be mounted inside a cystoscope. The widget also contains a bottom and top hole to accept locating pins, three wire entry holes to provide a slot for electrical connection, and tapered features to assist in component fit.

Widget - Initial Sketch
The widget was sketched in third angle projection and perspective views based on a real-life model before designing in Fusion 360.

Widget - Design
Dimensions of a real-life widget model were measured using a caliper, and then an initial widget design was crafted in Fusion 360.

Widget - Engineering Drawing
Fully-dimensioned engineering drawing was generated for the widget in Fusion 360.

Widget - Design for Manufacturing
The initial widget design was not optimized for low-cost tooling and manufacturing during injection molding. The widget design was updated to add three degree draft angles to all surfaces, to change top and bottom holes to slots to remove the need for side actions, and to make the side ear-like structures flush with the top opening of the widget to remove over-hanging features.
