Artificial Mitral Valve Sewing Cushion

The leather sewing cushion is used during mitral valve repair surgery to provide a base for the implantation of an artificial mitral valve. The sewing cushion ensures that the implant fits the patient's mitral valve annulus as best as possible.

Patient heart MRI DICOM images were uploaded to 3D Slicer, a medical imaging reconstruction software. The mitral valve annulus was segmented out and uploaded to Fusion 360, where a sewing cushion was designed custom-fit to the patient's mitral valve annulus. The resultant designed sewing cushion was well-fit to the patient and will allow for the successful implantation of an artificial mitral valve.
